Matt Emerick
Woodwork designer
Matt has always been interested in drawing and designing, hugely inspired by both his grandfathers - Sydney E being a quick draw artist and Harvey B being an architect (then going on to woodworking in his later years). 10 years ago Matt felt drawn to make something out of waste wood, pallets and alike and his passion for woodwork quickly grew and through some tough parts of his life he found peace of mind focusing on his designs and seeing them through to the finished products.
In 2018 Matt dove into the woodworking world full time as Idea Tree Designs, with his family and friends' support he quickly found his style, making pieces to sell at a local market as well as bespoke items for customers and businesses. After a couple of years of markets and the world getting over covid, Matt opened a shop - Idea Tree Living - which was a collection of natural products and designs that looked great and that could serve a purpose. It was a dream come true, but after a year of trading he decided to close the shop, wanting to slow down his woodwork and focus on functional art designs, which used traditional hand held tools and so started Matthew A Emerick Designs [M-A-E-D].
Without the demands of retail life Matt is looking forward to supporting a more considered and slower approach to his work and really let the passion for his craft flow.
We will be showing Matt's new exhibition HAND M-A-E-D from 7th June until 6th July with a special preview on 6th June from 6.30 - 9pm. Find out more
