Pru Green
Potter
Pru Green is a ceramic artist who has worked for over 60 years with earthenware clay. Each piece is hand thrown with precision and hand decorated with the utmost care with coloured slips.
In 1966 she bought a wheelwright's premises with a small convenience store, petrol pumps and a milk delivery service, and transformed it into the now well-known Alvingham Pottery, where she ran a cafe alongside a ceramic workshop and selling space. Throughout her potting career Pru has managed large teams of ceramicists, training young blood who have since become known potters in their own right.
From Lincolnshire Pru moved to Wales and in Carmarthen set up Gwili Pottery, another working studio and selling space. In search of a drier climate, Pru headed for East Anglia and settled in Wivenhoe where she opened The Sentinel Gallery, which she ran until 2018. Pru has now retired from running her gallery but continues to make her exquisite pottery for us but at a much leisurely pace!
